It's hard to follow such a
liberating post as my last. It's also important to remember that good feelings are just that - feelings and emotion, which make them quite susceptible to sway and rapid change. What's important to hold onto is the principle behind the feelings, the Rock upon which our lives are built. The mercy of the Lord never ceases to amaze me, in good times and in bad. Because I cannot adequately put what I want to say into words, I'll let the Psalmist do it for me.
From Psalm 33, and from the
Traditional Office of Compline for Wednesday - a great gift of the Church!
Exquisívi Dóminum, et exaudívit me: et ex ómnibus tribulatiónibus meis erípuit me.
[I sought the Lord, and He heard me: and from all of my tribulations, He rescued me.]
... Iste pauper clamávit, et Dóminus exaudívit eum: et de ómnibus tribulatiónibus ejus salvávit eum.
[The poor man has cried out, and the Lord has heard him: and from all his tribulations, He has saved him.]
...
Multae tribulationes justorum: et de omnibus his liberabit eos Dominus.
[Many are the trials of the just: and from all of them, the Lord will deliver them.]
No matter how dark and desperate the psalm, the Church always ends with the
Gloria Patri.
"Free your mind from all that troubles you; God will take care of things. You will be unable to make haste in this (choice) without, so to speak, grieving the Heart of God, because He sees that you do not honor Him sufficiently with holy trust. Trust in Him, I beg you, and you will have the fulfillment of what your heart desires."
-St. Vincent de Paul
